Job analysis and job classification for addressing pay inequality in organizations: Adjusting our methods within a shifting legal landscape

Abstract Pay inequality remains a pervasive problem within the workforce. However, it can be challenging for even well-meaning and responsible organizations to effectively assess which jobs should considered equivalent paid same based on both legal criteria (which have shifted over time differ across specific statutes jurisdictions) scientific evidence continues amass). This paper intends initiate solution-focused discussion how proactively categorize so that pay decisions are made about men women legally defensible fair. We propose integrating job analysis/job classification literature discrimination (e.g., opinions given by courts) will inform this discussion. first review federal state legislation court set standards identifying discrimination. then relevance of systematically defining categorizing jobs, highlighting issues but (to best our knowledge) not been when undertaking such processes. Our intention is article spark dialogue among researchers practitioners regarding identification methods with strive meet equal goals, applying perspectives.
